Centreville, Maryland. The mansion house of Pioneer Point, a 40-acre estate used as a weekend retreat for members of the Soviet Embassy in Washington, is shown in this photo from the summer of 1973. Staff members using the estate have started planting hundreds of trees on the grounds, and officials believe the plantings have helped warm up relations between the Russians and residents of the neighboring Eastern Shore communities.
