It was special ordered, and purchased new in 1972 by a B-52 pilot who was stationed in North Dakota upon his return from his tour in Vietnam. The original owner kept the Cougar until 2021 until a Cougar enthusiast in Texas purchased the car, but he had too many project cars and decided to sell the car.I bought the car in it's original condition, which was still very good but needing some restoration. I shipped the car to my home in Florida. Here's a list of the work I did, or had done; 1. Car was practically rust free, but the needed paint due to nicks, dings, scratches, etc. I had it repainted in the car's original "Glamour Ivy Green" color. The paint looks nice!2. Top had dry-rot, so I ordered up a new high quality convertible top in the original color from a reputable US company, and I took it to a shop which specializes in replacing convertible tops. The top works well and looks good!3. The original Motocraft spread-bore four barrel carb was missing, but after much searching I did find the correct carb, these carbs were only on the CJ version of the 351C, the regular M Code 351 4bbl had a square bore Motocraft carb. I rebuilt and installed the correct Motocraft spread-bore carb. Car starts runs and drives great!4. I replaced the rear springs with a new pair as the old springs were sagging. The car sits at the correct height, now and looks good.5. I converted the ignition system to electronic ignition from points and condenser. Under the hood everything still appears stock and you cannot tell the distributor has been changed. The car starts better and runs much smoother now.6. I serviced the C-6 transmission. It shifts good and has no leaks.7. I service the engine with new plugs, wires, oil, filter, new coolant, it runs good and has no smoke and no leaks.I added the 15x8 Mercury style mags so I could add bigger tires. Tires are BF Goodrich 245/60/15 front, and 275/60/15 rear. The car looks good with these tires and rims, and it gets many compliments in traffic!8. New lug nuts and center caps for the reproduction Mercury wheels9. New dual exhaust with not too loud mufflers, sounds good10. I added new "Mercury' and "Cougar" emblems after paint.11. New gas tank and fuel gauge sender12. New fuel line I finished this car about a year ago and had it on consignment for sale through Gateway Classics until this month. I decided to take the car home so I could enjoy it as I was selling it. I'll take it to car shows on the weekend, and it'll also be for sale locally. The car is not perfect, but is really nice, probably an 8.5 out of 10. It’s reliable, as are all the cars I restore, you could daily drive it. There are no rust issues at all, I don't waste time restoring rusty cars. The A/C was blowing cold last year, but I'll check it and service it if not. Sometimes the Tachometer works, and sometimes not. Original carpet is okay but would loo better replaced. The car drives nice and tight, as you would expect from a car with low miles like this one. This is a nice example of a car which is pretty rare, gong up in value, but is not so expensive that you can still enjoy it.
