Description: For a Kuna mola artist the more beautiful she makes her mola, the more power it will have, so she sews and creates with this purpose. So it is with "true" folkart that distinguishes it from molas made merely for a tourist market. This magnificent mola was once worn with pride by the Kuna woman who created it, and years later, she allowed me to purchase it when I visited her at her island home in Kuna-Yala. A Kuna (Guna) artisan, as in when you create molas for your own use, you are not just making a piece of art but instilling the spirit of the creature you portray in your mola. I've been going to Kuna Yala (San Blas Islands) since 1974 and have made over 89 trips there as an ethnographer and collector, buying directly from the Kuna women who make and wear molas. Molas are my passion and life's work, and I am qualified to answer any of your questions about this fascinating art form.* Please check my other Mola listings and recently published Mola Coloring Book! Thank you for your interest! All molas are from my personal collection (Prudence Grissom), and I have taken the photographs, which are Copyrighted. Please ask questions; I'm happy to help and appreciate your business! Prudence Grissom. * Please check out my other mola listings and my recently published Mola Coloring Book!
