Description: This is an ELGIN Grandfather Clock, out of the Elgin Clock Division of the Elgin watch company, 84 west Jackson blvd, Chicago Illinois 60607… as per the paperwork that came with the clock. Information on this clock is very hard to find. I did purchase it from the original owner, who was 20yo when her father brought the clock home. She said that ever since he brought the clock home, he would say that he was going to get someone to assemble it, but over 50 years later there it still sat. From her age, I’m thinking that her father must be gone by now. It was a very emotional event, receiving this clock. But I assured her that this GEM, would be in Good hands with whoever ends up with it. This clock isn’t just for your average Joe. This is not just a clock, this clock is a Golden piece of history! The clock has an ELGIN tag on the face but I couldn’t find another one anywhere! Finally I stumbled up on a zeeland michigan 1980 tube chime grandfather, that looked exactly like this one, but where the Elgin tag is on this one, is a zeeland tag on that one. They both have the same Jouch movement, made in Germany, same design, same everything except the name. They are the same clock. So I’m thinking that Zeeland must have bought the Elgin company, but not before this clock was made, that was a 1980 this is a 1970. And so This one is a true Dinosaur. And extinct as such. And that is the history that I could find up to this point. This Never Used (parts still unboxed, please see photos) 1970 ELGIN, grandfather clock is a Wonderful addition to any collection. The clock has that classic design. Behind the long beautiful beveled front glass door, you will clearly view the Big brass pendulum swinging back and forth, as well as you will see the 3 wonderful big brass weights and the 5 long chimes, that are sure to impress only during viewing the clock, but when the hammers hit the long tube chimes. oh man, WONDERFUL, is the best word that fits here! The Clock also comes with full glass side construction, this allows you to also view the workings from any vantage point. Those full side glass panels lead up to a removable door on both sides where if removed, you will find a brand new, never used, full brass mechanical clock movement. This clock is an Extraordinary Piece of history, sure to last atleast 200 years if taken care of. The clock has never been assembled, and it features that Rare and sought after, 5 tube Westminster Chime sequence that is so well known. This Wonderful timepiece is a great find for anyone. It is especially a great find for collectors of Vintage and antique Clocks, or even collectors of decorative and functional items alike. This clock was manufactured in the 1970s and the fact that it has never been assembled makes it a Very unique piece that will add character and conversation to any room. The case and glass is in mint condition and all of the weights, tube chimes and pendulum are still in their original boxes, untouched and in Brand new condition. This piece is unmatched. Who will be the Lucky one? As an added benefit, there was also a barometer that was with the clock, also unopened. I did open it to look at it. One of the brass surroundings came off so that will need to be addressed, one drop of glue should do. Look for the details on the barometer in the last 3 photos. I am throwing in the barometer for free with whoever buys the clock. I can’t see separating them after all of this time. You will get everything that the original buyer brought home on that day over 50 years ago. This Clock can be delivered and installed ( for a fee) if requested. Thank you for viewing my ad and please have a wonderful day.
