Although Jamaica became independent from Great Britain in 1962, the island nation did not issue its own currency until 1969. This coin is the first 20c issued by Jamaica. The obverse features local trees and the reverse features the coat of arms with Arawaks, pineapples, and the national motto “Out of Many, One People”.
