Description: This is for an original full ticket from the July 9 1968 Major League baseball All Star game which was played at the Astrodome in Houston Texas. This would be a game for the record books and the final game before the league would expand and add another 4 teams in 1969. This was also the year of the pitcher and the last year the mound would be 15 inches high. Hitting was so poor that Carl Yastrzemski would be the only batter to hit over 300 in the American League, leading the league with a .301 batting average. Willie Mays would be the MVP of the game scoring the only run in the bottom of the first inning off of losing pitcher Luis Tiant. Mays would single to left field for the NL to start things off and be picked off of first, but Tiants throw would get past Harmon Killebrew for an error with Mays advancing to second. Curt Flood would then walk on a wild pitch moving Mays to third while Flood would take first. Willie McCovey would then hit into a 5-6-3 double play with Mays scoring the games only run. The closest the AL could come was Tony Oliva just missing a home run off of the left field fence in the seventh but settling for a double and being stranded on second to end the inning. This would be the first All Star game played indoors and the first ever played on Astroturf, both a big negative to baseball purists. It is also the only All Star game played where no earned runs were scored. This huge 7 x 2 ¾ inch ticket is in incredible condition and hasn’t seen the light of day in over 50 years. A nice example to be graded by PSA. Check out the scan and email with any questions. Combined shipping always available for multiple purchases
