Description: This week I'm offering a number of old non-sport cards from various vintage sets. In 1966 and 1967, Donruss, which was then a very minor company in the non-sport world, issued four series of 44 cards each featuring the popular TV Rock and Roll band, the Monkees. The Monkees were four young musicians who were assembled by producers of their TV series as something of a "synthetic" rock group, but the show (which featured silly and fast paced comedy, mixed with music) quickly became a hit. The Donruss sets are made up of black & white or color photos showing the four group members in various poses and situations. The backs either form a puzzle, or include trivia quizzes about the group. These four small sets are still very popular with non-sport collectors and fans of Sixties music as well! Here I have a lot of 21 different cards from the second series, which was the first one issued in color (the numbers are confusingly lettered with an "A"). The cards are in generally acceptable condition, with many showing a bit of corner wear (see scans for condition). All in all, a set designed to appeal to any collector.
