Description: 1966 Press Photo Tennessee Gas in-ground storage facility excavation - Mass. This is an original press photo. Construction is well along on liquefied natural gas storage facilities for Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co. at Hopkinton, Massachusetts. The facilities will include a liquefaction plant, a revaporization plant and two mammoth in-ground storage tanks, the excavations of which are pictured here. Construction is scheduled for completion next spring with first deliveries due during the 1967-68 winter. Storage capacity of the in-ground containers will be 3 billion cubic feet of natural gas. In its liquid state, the super-cooled gas will be the equivalent of a million barrels. Depth of the storage tanks will be 172 and their diameter 135 feet. Photo measures 10 x 8.25 inches.
