Description: DETAILS: Pair of Mexican sterling silver mint julep cups or tumblers made by Juventino Lopez Reyes for the Houston Texas Livestock Show in 1966 and awarded as horse trophies. We purchased these from a local estate.The specific design was originally made by Williams Spratling in Taxco and apparently copied by this Mexican sterling craftsman. Mexican silver makers frequently copied each other. Total combined weight is about 9.48 troy ounces or 295 grams. MARK/SIGNATURE: Appropriate mark JLR 925 STERLING Made In MEXICO on both. One is engraved: SURF 9814 TRAIL CLASS HOUSTON LIVESTOCK SHOW 1966 The other is engraved: SURF 9814 HUGH MARSHALL AMATEUR OWNER ENGLISH PLEASURE HOUSTON LIVESTOCK SHOW 1966. CONDITION: In very good preowned vintage condition with expected and typical very minor surface scratches. There are no deep scratches, stains, pitting, or large dents. Mentioned for the record, one of the tumblers has a tiny dent on the top rim. This is neither obvious nor distracting and is more obvious in our highly magnified photos than it will be in person. We did Not polish these, so the new owner will want to carefully hand polish the silver so that it will look its best. MEASUREMENTS: Approximately 3 1/4 inches tall by around 3 1/8 inches in diameter at the top rim.
