Description: 1966 Ford Mustang Factory 289c.i. (6R07C162xxx) C-code 2-bbl car, Automatic, original 289 motor, transmission and rear-end, California car showing 98k miles, bucket seats, power drum brakes, power steering, door VIN data plate, original 289 engine ID tag, VIN factory stamp on the drivers inner fender, original factory black Interior, factory black vinyl top, and 14” Mustang styled steel wheels with raised white letter tires! I just finished a very long detailed cleanup and mechanical restoration on this absolutely awesome 1966 289 Mustang. I will list everything in detail later but here are some things I did to make the Mustang road ready. Complete new top end, cam, lifters, timing chain, gaskets, reconditioned heads, rebuilt original 2-bbl carb, fuel filter, oil and filter, water pump, aluminum radiator, shroud, thermostat, radiator hoses, heater hoses, clamps, battery, alternator, cleaned underside of car, rear shocks, buffed, wet sanded and waxed exterior, cleaned all chrome and factory glass, cleaned fuse box and wiring, replaced bulbs and complete full detail. I typically restore or finish around 8-10 Mopar's a year and a few Mustangs along the way and have been working on them for more than 35 years and I do everyone as they were my own to keep. I put a lot of time, effort, pride and money in the cars that I offer for sale which is evident when viewing one of my cars compared to others for sale. I do a lot of the small things with great attention to detail that most people overlook or don’t know how to fix it correctly. Please call 412- 496- 1439 for complete details. Thanks! PAINT, BODY AND FRAME The Mustang has an excellent California body and the sheet metal appears to be extremely clean with no rust repairs. The base/clear paint has a very nice deep shine and is rust free with excellent panel fit. There are even several area’s of original red oxide primer showing on the frame and undercarriage. If you take of some of the under coat off in area’s you can also see some of the factory red body color paint. The inside wheel well lips are absolutely exceptional!!! I cleaned some of the undercoat to show the perfect red oxide primer and the factory spot welds!!! This is the nicest body Mustang that I have ever owned. I believe the Mustang was painted more than 10 years ago with base/clear paint and looks close to the 1966 Mustang Sahara Beige color (was a factory signal flare red car). The super high-gloss deep clear coat shine was just professionally wet sanded with 1500, 2000 and 2500 grit paper to achieve a high caliber ultra finish. This long process alone took over 60 hours and the finish shows it!!! There are a few very small chips that have been brush touched up. Mainly on the very lower driver side quarter, edge of rear window chrome strip on bottom and LH rear quarter on the rear edge (They are shown in the extra photo link below). You can run your fingers around every inside wheel well lip and they are absolutely rust free! Even the factory water drains are still on the lower quarters and never had rust!!!! The inside edges of both doors are absolutely spotless and look fantastic! The doors open and close with ease and the seams are excellent! The original trunk floor looks very good and you can still see the correct factory spot welds. The frame is in excellent shape with no signs of any damage or rust. The black engine bay paint was done in July 2024. The underside of the hood, trunk lid and door jams all look great! I am very picky and critical, as well as honest so please do not hesitate to call me as I will crucify my own car and do a complete walk around with you on the phone! GLASS, CHROME AND TRIM The front windshield has been replaced with newer glass and the rest is original Ford date coded glass and in very good condition for factory glass! The front bumper appears to be newer along with the emblems. The rear bumper is nice but does have a couple scuff marks on it. The trim pieces are very clean and were polished for an optimum shine. The front grill appears to be in very nice original condition with no dents or cracks. I replaced the rear window tack plastic rollers on the RH rear glass and greased the tracks. All the windows now go up and down great!!! INTERIOR The factory black Interior is in very nice shape and has been extremely well taken care of. The carpet shows very well with little wear. The seat covers front and rear are in very good shape. The original dash pad had repair work done in the center and looks very good. I believe the headliner is newer and it is in excellent shape. All the factory gauges work and operate correctly. Added are the water temp gauge and a volt gauge for accuracy. All lighting works as should including the high/low beams, interior lighting, reverse lights, tail lights, parking lights, turn signals, four-way flashers and license plate light. The fan motor, wipers, horn, and E-brake all work. The radio is an aftermarket am/fm and works fine. DRIVE TRAIN The original 289c.i. factory 2-bbl. (C-code) runs and drives excellent! It also has the Ford factory engine data I.D. tag that I will decode below. The 289 still has been upgraded to the Petronix electronic style distributor. The engine runs extremely smooth and is very easy to drive. It has a very good idle and excellent off idle throttle response. The 289 has just had the complete new top end done with a new cam (with proper break-in done and oils used), lifters, push rods, timing chain, gaskets, reconditioned 1966 289 heads, ARP head bolt kit, rebuilt original 2-bbl carb I have also changed the water pump, thermostat, heater hoses, Ford stamped radiator hoses, date coded clamps, plugs, alternator, belts, P/S pump, P/S hoses, air filter, engine oil and filter, brand new battery and Ford Autolite battery decal kit. The P/S power cylinder does drip a small amount of oil when sitting. The automatic transmission shifts excellent, has good throttle response and is an absolute blast to drive! It has a nice dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers, chrome tips and sounds excellent!!! The original Ford 8” rear-end I believe it still has the original 3.00 ring and pinion gear and is an open unit. SUSPENSION The front suspension has been all checked over and cleaned and drives and handles great! The front and rear brakes are newer and only had to replace the RH rear wheel cylinder and totally flushed with new DOT 5 brake fluid.
