Description: This vintage 1966 Ampeg SB-12 Portaflex tube amp is best described as the working player's laid-back stand-in when that SVT won't easily haul to the session. Sonically this bad boy remains smooth, punchy, articulate, will easily pass muster with any veteran player. As the chosen amp for years, it's been recently gone over and professionally tweaked, having spent most of the last twenty with its aux jack tied to a studio DI. The tubes are vintage (Fisher 7868’s & Sovtek 12AX7’s) long proved to be brutes (count on a long stretch down the road before anything microphonic). The tired 45-year old Jensen has been retired and replaced with an EAW-RCF 12” subwoofer (300watt oversize coil and surround) driver, perfect with the classic reflex. The original speaker output has been rerouted, replacing the quirky medieval speaker connection with robust Switchcraft XLRs and Mogami quad cable/jumper (paralleled to14 gauge O2-free copper). The DC frontend has been beefed up and re-capped with new cans for the power supply. The stock components on the main board, the power and output transformers, the tolex cabinet are original as per 1966 Linden NJ specs. The wiring for the electrical power has been reworked meeting latest codes (NEC/IEC). Comes with kit made up of backups for 7868 &12AX7 tubes, spare fuses, a solid-state rectifier, varied documentation from its gloried past. Shipped for free.
