Description: This week I'm offering a number of old non-sport cards from various vintage sets. In 1961, the 100th anniversary of the Civil War caused a huge surge of interest in that moment in U.S. history, and Topps jumped at the chance to get something out of it. They commissioned a spectacular set of 88 cards illustrating the Civil War, with scenes from the conflict painted by artist Norm Saunders. The paintings are action-packed, thrilling and often quite bloody. Not surprisingly, the series was a huge hit, although Topps did take some occasional liberties with historical accuracy. In any case, the set remains very popular with collectors. This is card #58, "Angel of Mercy.." The card is in nice shape (see scans for condition).
