Flags and slogans adorn the old German structures. "For unbreakable friendship with the Soviet Union, the pioneers of Communist advancement," and "The Baltic Sea is a Sea of Peace" are some of the slogans seen. Long regarded as a show window of East German Communism, Rostock is being groomed to take over Hamburg's role as the main German port on the norther coast.
