The new General Motors space age inspired experimental car, Firebird III, taken at the 330-acre GM Technical Center near Detroit where the car was designed and built. The girl, above, shows the low silhouette of the car, only 44.8 inches high at the top of the passenger canopies and 57 inches high at the tail. Below, framed against the familiar stainless steel water tower at the Technical Center, is a rear view showing the cluster of seven fins which serve as aerodynamic stabilizers and also emphasize the forward thrust of its rear-positioned, improved Whirlfire gas turbine engine. The new car will be publicly displayed at the GM Motorama of 1959 in New York City beginning October 16. Photo measures 10 x 8.25inches. Photo is dated --1959.
