Since 1954 this four-unit locomotive, which has operated as the Erie Railroad's No. 750, has been used to develop and prove many of the components now incorporated in General Electric's Universal-type locomotives for overseas railroads. As the next step in General Electric's program for continuing advance of locomotive design, the two 1200 horsepower units being retired from service are being concurrently replaced with a new experimental locomotive which will operate in multiple with 2 remaining 1800 horsepower units. The Erie Railroad will also operate the new unit which, like its predecessors, will be used to evaluate advanced concepts of locomotive design and construction. Photo measures 10 x 8 inches.
