Description: FRESH FROM AN OLD DENVER ESTATE......the glare from my lighting is in the lower left....the painting is nice and clear........Born in San Antonio, Texas, in 1921 to Agnes Duke, he graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and received his master’s degree from New York University. He served in the U.S. Army as an engineer with the Special Regiment 363rd.He was a teacher of business administration at New York University and a designer with Tyndale Lamp Company, Cosco, Alsy Gyole 2, and for himself in Josef Head Designs.A talented artist, he was represented in a number of major private and public collections and held a number of one-man exhibitions at many Texas locations, including Witte Museum, Elizabeth New Museum, Pan American Gallery, Centennial Museum, Torrence Association, University of Texas and Southwestern University; as well as in New York at the Janet Nessler Gallery, in 1958, 1960 and 1963 and the Paul Kessler Gallery in 1960, 1961 and 1962.His national and regional exhibitions included shows at the Butler Institute in Youngstown, Ohio; Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C.; Columbia Museum of Arts in Columbia, South Carolina (invited); Greenville Museum of Art in Greenville, South Carolina (invited); Philbrook Art Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma; Springfield Museum of Fine Art in Springfield, Massachusetts; City Museum in St. Louis, Missouri; University of Nebraska in Kearney, Nebraska; Staten Island Museum in New York; and others.He was awarded a Permanent Collection Prize from the Witte Museum in San Antonio, Texas, a Watercolor Society Award, a Joe and Emily Lowe Award, and a Purchase for Permanent Collection from the Springfield Museum.He died in 2009... signed and dated in lower right....Titled THE BANQUET on the back....On canvas..........$60 for a well-packed box.
