Soviet art is the visual art style produced after the Russian Revolution of 1917 and during the existence of the Soviet Union, until its collapse in 1991. The Russian Revolution led to an artistic and cultural shift within Russia and the Soviet Union as a whole, including a new focus on socialist realism in officially approved art. Includes a piece of work mentioning Vladimir Mayakovsky (1893-1930) which depicts the Statue of Liberty. Mayakovsky's early poems established him as one of the more original poets to come out of Russian Futurism, a movement characterized by a rejection of traditional elements in favor of formal experimentation, and that welcomed social change, as promised by technologies such as automobiles. Mayakovsky created propaganda graphics and verses for the Russian State Telegraph Agency, and became involved in Left Front of the Arts, editing its journal. FORN-SHELF-0681-BB-0424-HK1489
