Description: GREAT MEMORIES ARE MADE OF THIS. 1956 was quite a year for the Bronx Bombers, and this Original 1957 yearbook celebrates that. Mickey Mantle came into his own, winning the rare Triple Crown and MVP, Yogi Berra had another terrific season, Whitey Ford was superb, and then they beat their Brooklyn neighbors in 7 games to win it all, thanks in part to Don Larsen's stunning perfect game, the only one in World Series history. Notice on the Roster page there's a young kid named Kubek under Outfielders, and in parentheses it says "also plays infield." With the outfield they had, they had to do something else with him, so he started playing shortstop . . . and how did that turn out? Kubek to Richardson to Skowron--that went on for years. One of those "right" decisions. With Yogi doing most of the catching, a very athletic Elston Howard was also labeled "Outfielder," but by and by Stengel changed things around and put Yogi in left to save wear and tear on his legs, and Howard more than took over behind the plate, winning 2 Gold Gloves and becoming a 12-time All-Star. More good decisions. . . .Is it any wonder the "Maestro" won 10 out of 12 League titles and seven World Series?
