Ashland, Kentucky -- A landslide blocking U.S. 52 in Ohio, across the Ohio River from here, reached a depth of about 8 feet in yellow mud, tree branches and limbs and other debris yesterday. Shown above, a service station office owned by W.R. Newman of Ironton, Ohio, is being collapsed by the force of the creeping mud. The slowly moving landslide threatened to close main lines of the Norfolk & Western Railroad Company, but a power shovel was moving the muck as rapidly as possible, and the lines were still open today. The landslide was blamed on "excess water" by Ohio State Highway Department officials.Photo measures 9 x 7.25inches. Photo is dated 02-22-1956.
