Description: Free FedEx US Ground Shipping // International Available Soviet Russian Naval Officer Dagger – 1954 Zlatoust Arms Factory ЗИК (ZIK) This is an authentic Soviet naval officer's ceremonial dagger produced in 1954 by the Zlatoust Arms Factory (Златоустовский инструментальный комбинат, ЗИК). Some people refer to this plant as ZIK. The set includes the dagger, scabbard, and the complete 3-piece officer’s belt. The dagger features a highly polished blade, belt has gold colored fittings, and it has the lacquered scabbard with the traditional Soviet naval motif, lots of brass. This piece is in superb shape for its' age with just light wear on the guard, pommel, belt rings and scabbard consistent with ceremonial use by an officer. The blade has some light scratches on it just due to the way they slide in and out of the scabbard metal-on-metal. The belt has typical age and use wear just the same, but for a piece this age, it's all quite nice and still sharp I might add.The factory's ЗИК inscription, visible on the blade, confirms its origin. Zlatoust was the primary manufacturer of Soviet ceremonial daggers and edged weapons during the mid-20th century, and their craftsmanship is renowned. The serial number No. 4453 indicates this dagger was part of an early production batch in 1954. Historical Snippets Soviet naval officer daggers were introduced in the 1940s as part of formal dress uniforms, symbolizing the rank and prestige of the bearer. The Zlatoust Arms Factory has a long history dating back to 1815 and became the leading Soviet producer of ceremonial and combat blades. These daggers were issued to officers until the late 1980s, making them a staple of Soviet military tradition. The year 1954 falls within the prime production period for these iconic blades.BulatJust a quick note here and I posted in this an ad for a similar piece we sold recently, but it seems quite popular to call pieces made at Zlatoust or really any Russian blade Bulat which I don't believe is always correct. Bulat steel is traditionally layered and folded similarly to Damascus steel and you should be able to see the strata in the blade itself. This layering technique makes the blades super hard and it just doesn't make sense that ceremonial daggers would be made this way. Please feel free to correct me, happy to hear any criticisms of that assessment. Fulfillment The dagger and belt set will be securely packaged with plenty of padding and a reinforced box. I ship FedEx Ground and am meticulous about packing. I typically ship within 1 business day of purchase. International shipping is available through eBay's Global Shipping Program.
