Description: Early 1900's Vintage PostcardBelle Plaine, IowaEighth Avenue with Herring Hotel, Bus. Very good unused vintage condition. Shallow dentsfrom album corners. No publisher given. William Herring wanted to accommodate travelers on the Lincoln Highway with comfortable lodgings and his hotelopened in 1900 as a two story cottage, shown on this card.In 1914 a fire destroyed the roof and the attic and a fullthird floor was added to the building. Herring was a progressiveinnkeeper, operating the bus shown to transport travelersfrom the station, later adding a service station andunderground garage to accommodate his patrons.The building was demolished in 2023.
