Description: 1991 Topps (1953 Archives) #255 HOMER "DIXIE" HOWELL Brooklyn Dodgers SGC-96 In June 2010, Mears auctioned off memorabilia from 1950's Milwaukee Braves pitcher Lew Burdette. We picked up the Topps 1953 Archives set. A neat set that is loaded w/ teammates, rivals & contemporaries of Burdette. And can be sold at a fraction of what a "real" 1953 Topps card would be. Lew Burdette pitched from 1950 to 1967 and amassed 203 wins w/ 144 losses. He twice won 19 games and twice won 20 or more & was a 3 time All Star. Milwaukee's 1st trip to the World Series was 1957 vs NY. Burdette beat Bobby Shantz, Whitey Ford & Don Larsen to go 3-0 incl. a game 7 victory at Yankee Stadium shutting the bombers out 5-0. His ERA for the series was just 0.67 naturally winning the Series MVP. And was Sport Magazine's "Man Of The Year" for 1957. He passed away in 2007 at age 81 Of the 330 card set, we submitted about 100 cards, and SGC added the Burdette pedigree to the flip. These are the ONLY cards that are pedigreed from the Lew Burdette Collection. The other 200+ cards in the set will not be submitted. And every card offered is a true 1 of 1, since 1 set is all Mr. Burdette had. So these can not be replaced, once a specific player sells.....that's it!
