Description: From “A Guide to Collecting Cookbooks by Colonel Bob Allen” ~“The Lever Brothers Company of Cambridge, Massachusetts was established in 1895. In 1935 the Lever Brothers Company began manufacturing Spry shortening packaged in 1 lb., 3 lb. and 6 lb. cans with a green & yellow label. During World War II, with a shortage of metals, the product was packaged in jars with the green and yellow label. In 1949 the blue and white checked label was introduced. In 1955 on their 20th anniversary, the label was changed to a red and white with two gold stripes. By 1952 the Lever Brothers Company, Spry Division was located in New York, New York.In 1942 Spry introduced Aunt Jenny as their spokeswoman.
