Description: Take time to enjoy life with this whimsical 1950s Ming Tea Tin. The empty tin, manufactured by Ming-Chai Tea Company and Stephen Leeman Products Company of New York, shows tea transport in a different light! Midcentury modern style bursts out with a wonderful color clash of turquoise, orange and gold. Good tea starts with the basics, as shown here with a man and woman using cartoonish donkeys to transport bales of flavorful tea leaves while a bright game bird struts along as part of the caravan. An eye-catching container, the canister will work as a pencil holder on your desk! Sure to inject humor in your day! Merriment abounds on the mini 7 oz. Gun Powder Tea tin. Other varieties featured included the Ming Jasmine Tea, a chai tea and herbal products. In all, there were 33 different Ming teas; each with its own particular characteristics. An innovative marketing company, in the 1930s Ming Teas packed "Tea Fortunes!", a little booklet containing instructions in tasseomancy, the art of tea leaf divination, into boxes of Tell Your Fortune Tea, a loose leaf product. By 1941, Stephen Leeman, himself, was on hand at the Ming Fair, a special tea house in New York. Ming teas, the Treasure Teas of the world, were right at home when the whole line rolled in a fabulous teahouse named the Ming Fair. Teas appeared on the shelves of delicacy shops in many large cities. Our tin, which is in good condition, measures 4" high by 3" in diameter. A small rust spot (photo #3) is shown near the bird. Some small scratches are also found. The fun graphics are sharp and detailed. The exterior lid (photo #7) has some smudges. A rare find, the canister is all yours -- donkeys included!
