Description: Restored and improved imageRay Kroc's First McDonald's restaurant Des Plaines, Illinois photo by Carol Highsmith This is the site of Ray Kroc's first McDonald's restaurant, west of Chicago, which opened for business on April 15, 1955. McDonald's Corporation held onto the property and eventually restored this accurate replica of the original 1955 fast food restaurant. It does not operate today and there is a modern McDonald's across the street. Notice Speedee on the sign. Speedee was replaced with Ronald McDonald in 1967. The photo was taken sometime after 1980 and is quite sharp. It has been significantly improved. You will see nice detail, especially in the larger-size prints (see "Size options" below). Please see our 1950s photos as well. Check out all our items! You will receive one 8-inch by 10-inch (8x10) photographic print that will ship the next business day after you pay.
