Description: Offered for sale is this very nice example of the "Balky Mule" lithographed tin windup toy, manufactured sometime in the 1940's by Marx & Co. The toy measures about 8 1/4" x 3" x 5 1/2" high, and is in excellent condition and the windup mechanism seems to work as it should: wind it up and the cart motors forward in a semicircle, then stops and motors in reverse in a semicircle, then repeats the action. The lithographed finish is still bright and shiny, and though there is some light play wear, there are no dents or other significant damage. It is missing the original reins, but otherwise it retains all of its original parts. The box has seen better days: the graphics are somewhat faded, there is a tear from one end to the other along one of the edges, manifold creases and small tears, and it's missing all of the flaps at one end of the box. Please check the photos carefully (we recommend using the magnifying function) as they do a better job than we can of describing the piece.
