Description: For sale is the 1944 Hatchet, the yearbook of George Washington High School in the city of New York. This Hard-to-find 96-page hardcover book contains photos of the students and faculty, sports teams, clubs and other organizations, plus vintage ads and a review of the school year. It concentrates on the graduating seniors, but underclassmen also are in pictures. Harry Belafonte, the legendary entertainer, attended George Washington High during the 1943-44 school year, but dropped out between semesters and joined the Navy. It’s unlikely that he’s pictured in this yearbook, but many of his former classmates are. This yearbook is in very good condition, with several students’ signatures. Part of the spine is missing.
