Description: In 1938, Conrad Hilton purchased the Breakers Hotel which opened in 1926. Shortly thereafter, he converted the penthouse into the Sky Room which attracted movie stars like Clark Gable, Rita Hayworth, and Cary Grant. During its peak, the restaurant was one of the most popular dining spots in Southern California. The menu has scalloped edges as does the “Ad Libitum” insert on the inside which is dated May 8, 1943. The most expensive item on the menu, the Broiled New York Steak, was only $2.50 included soup, potatoes, salad, desserts, etc. The Rhythm Ripples page, which listed an assortment of wines and champagnes, has been “x-ed” out in pencil — possibly “due to present world conditions” (i.e. World War II) “that limited our stock of imported wines.” Size closed is 9 x 12 inches. Overall condition is very fine but there’s minor soiling on the covers, minor creasing and the scalloped edges are bumped and particularly soft on all four corners. The interior is very clean with the exception of a slightly rusted paper clip and resulting stains. Shipping via First Class Mail in a manila envelope with rigid cardboard backing will be for the actual cost of postage. Buyer satisfaction is always guaranteed. P.S. Please advise if you’re bidding on multiple items as we are always happy to combine shipping.
