WILLIAM HOWARD BARKER (O.B.E) IS ALSO ASSOCIATED WITH ANOTHER ROLEX GENEX EARLIER PRESENTATION WATCH IN 1941 WHEN HE WAS FIRE CHIEF OF BOURNMOUTH FIRE BRIGADE. (ITEM NUMBER 395700376157). THIS MERCHANT NAVY SHIP DID MANY CONVOY VOYAGES DURING WW2 AND I ASSUME WILLIAM H BARKER WAS ON THE SHIP DURING THIS TIME AND WAS GIVEN THIS WATCH AS A GIFT WHEN IT RETURNED TO NORWAY IN 1945. THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL 1945 ABSOLUTELY LOVELY SOLID 9 CARAT GOLD MANS WATCH IN EXCELLENT ORIGINAL CONDITION. FRESH FROM AN ESTATE SALE AND NEVER OFFERED ON EBAY BEFORE! CASE: This is a lovely solid 9 carat GOLD two piece snap back cushion shaped watch case. The inside rear of the case is hall marked for solid 9 carat gold, and has the assay mark for LONDON, ENGLAND dating the watch to 1943. The inside of the case is FULLY hallmarked. The case is in nice condition showing no major wear apart from some light normal age related marks on the bezel and case back. The case back has a beautifully engraved inscription which read: ‘FIREFORCE COMMANDER WILLIAM HOWARD BARKER O.B.E S.S TORFINN JARL AUGUST 1946’ The case is shining with a beautiful golden luster after a gentle polish. The case measures 2.7cms (27mm) across excluding the 9ct gold fixed lugs and crown. This is a stunning and beautiful QUALITY solid gold genuine watch case. DIAL: This is an absolutely lovely ORIGINAL fully unsigned ORIGINAL CONDITION dial. It is similar to the ‘California dials on some Rolex Oysters) It shows just some spots and WEAR AROUND THE EDGES one or two marks. THIS DIAL HAS A FANTASTIC ART DECO LOOK TO IT with black painted ROMAN numerals with a black outer ‘Railway’ minute track (parts missing). The original ‘Breguet’ style hands are golden steel and are in age related condition with the hour hand showing some tarnishing as is the golden sub second hand. This is a really fantastic ORIGINAL dial in excellent original condition. The crystal is brand new and as such is in excellent condition. MOVEMENT: This is a beautiful, fantastic and minty absolutely genuine unsigned Swiss made GOOD GRADE 15 jewel manual wind movement. The watch winds smoothly and sets with ease. It is in full working condition and has a lovely quiet operation. It has been serviced by my watch maker. The watch is keeping good time as tested over a 24 hour period to within approximately 30 secs per day dial up. The golden crown is unsigned, looks genuine to the watch, and is in good condition showing normal age related wear. BAND: I have had this gorgeous watch fitted with a brand new high quality stitched black leather band. It has never been worn, and is in nice condition. This watch and band measure 9 inches in total length. It compliments this beautiful solid gold watch absolutely superbly!
