He said the Germans were going to shoot him, but this tough Scot apparently outtalked and outlasted them while he was a prisoner in Halfaya (Hell Fire) pass near the Libyan frontier. He still had plenty of fight left in him when the imperial British forces managed to capture the pass January 17, affecting the release of the Scot and other prisoners.
