Description: The Official Inaugural medal struck in bronze for the 3rd Inauguration of President Franklin D. Roosevelt by the United States Mint in Philadelphia on January 20th, 1941. Medal measures 1 3/4" in very nice condition with original surfaces (all as seen) and actually far nicer than what I see typically offered. This is the actual first striking of this medal or referred to as the "TYPE 1" . The US MINT struck only 1000 medals TYPE 1 original medals. Based on demand the Inaugural committee requested an additional 2000 medals to be struck later which are identified by a number "2" appearing on the reverse. These restrikes are referred to as the TYPE 2 versions and far more commonly seen. In my opinion, the original TYPE1 strikings (especially when found in nice condition as this one) are one of the scarcest Official Inaugural medals and a sleeper in the Official Inaugural Medal series.
