Description: 1940 special delivery cover sent from Monterey, CA to Santa Ana, CA. The cover has two bold cancellations on the front reading September 1, 1940 (Monterey, Calif. (2)), and on the reverse, it has a faint cancellation reading September 1, 1940 (Santa Ana, Calif.). In addition, there are handstamps on the front reading "Fee Claimed at Santa Ana, Calif." and "For Night, Saturday, Sunday, and Holiday Arrival, USE SPECIAL DELIVERY." There are also two hand-written notations of "Special Delivery." The cover is franked with one 3c (Scott #897) and one 10c (Scott #E15) stamps. Clearly, this was an important letter. The cover is in very good, clean condition, but with a tear along the left side from opening.
