Description: 1938 TRANSITIONAL NICKEL PAIR #04 VG OR BETTER DETAILSKeep this in mind …. During the 1913-1938 time span a little over 1.2 billion total Indian/Buffalo nickels were minted - but In 2023 alone over 1.4 billion Jefferson nickels were minted!!! The year 1938 saw a transition from the last issue of the Indian/Buffalo nickel to the new Jefferson/Monticello designs! The old designs were coined early in the year and only at the Denver Mint - this resulting in a lower mintage. The new designs were the result of a National Artistic Competition, and the first Jefferson nickels were released into circulation on November 15, 1938! This pair consists of a 1938-D Indian/Buffalo type as well as a 1938-P Jefferson/Monticello - the latter coined at the Philadelphia Mint. Both coins grade a minimum of Very-Good condition. The photos I provide are scanned - gray or white specks on a coin are caused by something being on the bed of my scanner. Also, I try to provide large pictures - so keep in mind that my photos can make any imperfection appear much more serious than it really is. I suggest you compare the coins I offer to similar examples offered by others before making the decision to purchase any coin(s).
