Description: Extremely rare from the period in the school history... This group of five letters, all signed by Director of Studies, Pierre Brodin, exchange invitations and responses regarding a job placement at the school. The timeframe of the correspondence spans June 1937 to September 1937 and includes 2 handwritten and 3 typed letters, two being in French to the would be applicant. Also included in this lot are four responses from the applicant, one reply in french, to Pierre Brodin which more clearly suggests the story of a young school trying to find the best mix of teachers for their young students. According to the school's HISTORY page of their website, there were only 24 students in 3 grade when these letters were written. Pierre Brodin (1909-1997) worked at the school from 1935 to 1976 and would be crucial in the development of the school over time. Lycée Français de New YorkFounded with global foresight in the midst of the Great Depression in 1935 by the Consul General of France in New York, Mr. Charles de Ferry de Fontnouvelle, and a group of French and American officials, his vision for the Lycée was about more than creating a top high school, it was about shaping bright minds and leaders of tomorrow in a complex world.
