Description: Antique 1937 GOLDEN BEAR COOKIES Tin Litho Advertising Can "WAFERS for WINE" 14 OZ. From a local estate, this is a rare 1937 Art Deco Era Golden Bear Cookies "WAFERS FOR WINE" round lithographic advertising tin with the tag line "to taste them is to love them". This large 14 ounce can with the original lid has great color and features the Golden Bears in an eye-popping yellow on deep maroon red background on both the body of the can as well as the lid. Text on this cookie tin reads: GOLDEN BEAR COOKIE CO L.I. CITY N.Y.TRADEMARK REG. US PAT OFFICENET WEIGHT 14 OUNCESCOPYRIGHT 1937 This rare "WAFERS FOR WINE" tin may pre-date other "Golden Bear" cookie tins, as it makes no mention of the California location. It's unclear if "WAFERS FOR WINE" refers to wine & cheese for example OR perhaps Holy Communion?MEASURES APPROX: 5 3/4" tall x 5 1/4" in diameter. The can has wear - marks & scratches consistent with use and age. Lid scratches looks like a child has had it way with it - lol. There are black marks that look like they could be removed with a solvent & will leave it to the new owner to care for this tin as they see fit.
