Description: This week I'm offering a number of old non-sport cards from various vintage sets. In 1936, Heinz foods offered cards as premiums in their packages of breatfast cereal - cards devoted to the popular subject of aviation. Aviation in the Thirties was still a national obsession. Flying a plane was still an exciting novelty, and famous aviators enjoyed the same fascination with the public that movie stars and professional athletes did. Heinz issued two sets of 25 small (1 3/4" x 3") cards, one set depicting famous aviators of the day, and another 25 showcasing various makes and models of planes. The cards are very colorful and beautifully illustrated. The promotion was so successful that Herinz reissued the set on an annual basis through 1939 - a small code number on the back identifies the printing. Slight changes to to text were made several times over the course of the issue. The set remains very popular with collectors. This is card #19, picturing aviator Jack Frye. It's in acceptable shape showing slight corner wear and a tiny pinhole at the top (see scans for condition); not bad for a card that's over eighty years old. This would be a terrific addition to any collection! Shipping is $3.50 for First Class Mail, and postage will be combined for multiple winnings. Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
