Description: During the depression matchbook collecting was a runaway hobby. Books could be purchased 2 for a penny and featured a variety of subjects. The Oana '34 matchbook is one of the most sought after books in the set. Many fringe players, or those of distinctive ethnic backgrounds ( Henry was born in Hawaii), could only be found in the matchbook sets. The few gum card sets of the time were smaller in number of cards they offered and the choice of players were more main stream. Oana would play in only 6 games for the Phillies, he would then go back to the PCL until the war years and return and play brief stints for Tigers in '43 and '45. In all, he appeared in only 30 ML games. His Diamond back is in essence his rookie ( and ) only card.. This one is in great shape--very little wear with a striker intact and in good shape.----free shipping
