Description: This is one of many great vintage & antique items I'm currently listing from various estates. Please take a look at my other merchandise at your leisure. You are bidding on: Historic Film Negative Downtown San Francisco or Oakland Photo by G.I. Pitchford ~ c1931 ~ This great 1930s image was shot by G.I. Pitchford, a sales agent for Curt Teich & Co. In his extensive travels as a sales agent he shot many images that would become C.T. linen postcards. Fun image I tried really hard to figure out. There's a sign for a shoe store named Frank Werner Co. They had stores in SF & Oakland. In SF It had a few addresses...one on Market Street. Even though Market street was the theatre district - this doesn't look like Market. The other address was at 149 Montgomery. That's more likely - but things on that block have changed drastically. I couldn't find the Oakland address. That leads to the theatre marquee ending in "..SON". Never found one that matched. AT LEAST we know the approximate date of 1931 by the double feature of Tarzan The Ape Man and Our Wife starring Laurel and Hardy (both released in 1931). More about photographer G.I. Pitchford can be found in an article on Collectors Weekly, titled: How Linen Postcards Transformed the Depression Era Into a Hyperreal Dreamland. Film Image Measures 3.5 x 4.5 Inches. In Good Antique Condition: Shows Wear. Please see photos for further details Thanks for Looking and Good Luck BiddingSW4JC
