Description: "O-LOOK, THE JUGGLER" MECHANICAL CLOWN WIND-UP TOY - Late 1920s - 1930s Irwin & Co. #390. Approx. 6" x 14.5". Painted celluloid, metal and wood. Impressive animated toy (also known as "Ninkimono the Clockwork Clown"). Celluloid head with moulded fez and painted features. Metal torso houses clockwork mechanism with integral wind-up key. Figure leans from side to side while twirling a balanced rod inserted into his forehead. This is a working example with nice movement. Toy features cardboard "tube" legs, wooden jigsaw feet as base, original cotton/felt coat, shirt and tie, and celluloid hands. Balancing rod is made up of celluloid, wood, felt and metal elements. Also included is the scarce original graphic box (4.5" x 11.5" x 3.5"). Notably, on blank box back is a hand penciled Christmas greeting dated 1936. An outstanding mechanical toy with excellent visual appeal. Condition of TOY is considered GOOD to FAIR with moderate surface/stain/edge wear. No celluloid splits. NOTE: This is a working example with good movement. Condition of BOX is considered FAIR with miscellaneous surface/stain/edge wear. Lid flap has approx. 80% edge separation with 100% separation on cardboard lid fastener. Graphics are still bold & attractive. Overall, we feel box appearance is still very acceptable. Collectively, we consider this exceptional working toy in very displayable condition by most standards (see photos).
