Description: 1929 Terra Cotta Ornament Sheet * Carbide & Carbon Building Chicago IL Burnham Architect Original vintage advertising sheet – historical memorabilia This appears to be a standalone plate from the National Terra Cotta Society, 230 Park Avenue, New York City This is not a page removed from a book or catalog – looks like a handout – advertising sheet Black & White photo of gorgeous DETAILS of the “Moderne Ornament in Terra Cotta” in the famous Carbide & Carbon Building in Chicago, Illinois. Building facades and design details, decorative treatments. D.H. Burnham & Co was the Architect of the building . . . it was the regional office of Union Carbide and Carbon Co. The building was designated a Chicago Landmark on May 9, 1996. It was transformed into the Hard Rock Hotel Chicago from 2001-2004. The reverse side is blank Note on the bottom: Photographs are from clay models executed by the terra cotta manufacturer’s staff artists from the architect’s details. I found a few pics of the grand old building on the web for you Wikipedia and show them above (this is not a part of the auction, I do not have them) Undated, but I believe this to be from around 1929 era . . . the Building was built that year Condition: In very good condition ~ no writing – this has been folded in half at some point in its life ~ some edge wear – see pic . . . the upper left tip is there, I see if was folded over behind in the pic!
