The initial two (large-size) series were dated 1914 and 1918. The Series of 1914 includes both red and blue seal varieties, with the red seals—produced using an imported red ink that became unavailable during World War I—being significantly rarer than the blue seals. Denominations for the Series of 1914 include $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100, while the Series of 1918 features denominations of $500, $1,000, $5,000, and $10,000, all of which are considered rare. Small-size Federal Reserve Notes began with the Series of 1928 and have been issued in large quantities ever since. The Series of 1928 notes indicate they are payable in gold, a provision that was omitted in later issues. Up until the late 1940s, $500, $1,000, $5,000, and even $10,000 Federal Reserve Notes were produced. All of these remain legal tender today, but each carries a premium above its face value. This is an excellent note to add to your collection. Add this note to your cart today!
