Copyright 1924; there are no statements of printing, but the book is a reprint of the book first published by The Century Company. It was one of Century’s “Vagabond Travel Series” of books. It most likely was printed in the mid to late 1920s. This book is Hervey’s account of his search for romantic adventure, aboard ship in the Pacific and in travels in Asia. Harry Clay Hervey, 1900-1951 Harry Hervey was born in Beaumont, Texas, on November 5th, 1900, but was educated in Savannah, Georgia and Tennessee. He started writing at about age eight and sold his first work to H. L. Mencken at the age of sixteen. He spent much of his life at Savannah’s old Desoto Hotel, as his mother was in charge of housekeeping from 1923 to 1957. Mr. Hervey traveled widely in Asia, Africa and the South Pacific. He authored twelve novels and numerous short stories and screenplays. Among them are: King Cobra, The Black Parrot, She-Devil, School for Eternity, Barracoon, School for Eternity, The Veiled Fountain, The Damned Don’t Cry. Some of this Georgian author’s stories were made into movies—Asian Express is one. Harry Hervey was a life-long bachelor and died at the age of fifty in New York on August 13th, 1951. He is buried next to his mother, Jane Louise Davis, in Bonaventure Cemetery. Also from Savannah, Christopher Murphy Jr. was a prominent Georgian artist and teacher for much of the twentieth century. He is known particularly for his depictions of Savannah daily life and architecture, as well as for his portraiture. A sample: “I never knew her name. I could have learned it with slight effort.
