Description: The Bijou Theatre opened Christmas Day in 1909 on Broughton Street with a presentation of “When We Were Twenty-One”. Over the years, it served as a legitimate theater, a movie house and a vaudeville theater, and was for a time part of the B.F. Keith Circuit. The theatre closed in the 1950’s. George White’s Scandals was a series of revues that ran from 1919-1939. Modeled after The Zeigfeld Follies, it launched the careers of many entertainers, including W.C. Fields, The Three Stooges, and Ethel Merman.
