1920s Sheaffer Flat Top Oversized 14k Black Pearl Fountain Pen Mech Pencil Case

Description: Very rare 1920s Shaffer combination Flat-Top ink fountain pen and pencil set with original yellow case. Untested, didn’t attempt to restore or clean. Please see all pictures as they are part of the description. Sold “as is” in very good condition, almost 100 years old. Pen case is in beautiful shape. Opens and closes perfectly. A true gem! FOUNTAIN PEN has a 14K gold NIB and the 5 lines version (introduced in 1926) reads: SHEAFFER'S Lifetime Reg. U.S. Pat Off Made in U.S.A. 4002734 The Sheaffer Pen Company produced the FOUNTAIN PEN Flat-Top somewhere between 1912-1930s. This straight clip has the style imprint with just the company’s name logo typeface, thus dating this pen to at least 1922. This style font was used until 1930s. Around 1923, the company added a white dot to the center of the cap on Lifetime models and the hump style clips were introduced around 1927. Noting that this clip is straight with a round ball and mounted near the very top of the cap, one can estimate production year around 1926. The barrel reads: W.A.SHEAFFER PEN Co PAT.AUG.25-08-FORT MADISON,IA.U.S.A. DEC.10-12-JAN.27-OCT.20-NOV.24-14 Roughly after 1927, the patent dates were removed from barrel. Sheaffer early pyroxylin unbreakable plastic material was called Radite. Similar to celluloid plastic. This model pen has the mottled (light/dark) pattern called “Jet Black and Pearl”. It has the gold filled band, lever, and clip. Oversized long holder. I believe it’s the K8C (Zecer) model. Sheaffer De Luxe product line.
