Description: 1916 HCs 2 Volumes Yiddish/ English or Hebrew / EnglishNote: I will find out whch ASAP and edit this listing (*ebarrassed*) A History Of The United States Allen C. Illustrated throughout with sketches, portraits, many many maps, etc. Many maps in COLOR, some in black & white, some are shown, but there are more. The Jewish Press Publishing Company "New edition" "Rewritten and newly illustrated"Books are heavy, they weigh 1 lb 13 ozs EACH. ***Condition details: VG Repaired & VG Repaired. No marks! No tears! Volume 1: Cover & spine are VG. I shored up the spine so the IFC seam is , as shown, shored up with strips and glue. A nice smooth job if I do say so myself. I liked that repair so much that I put my book repair bookplate there. The following blank page is also shored up with strips. The next page is the pre-title page MAP which looks EXCELLENT. the rest of the entire book that follows is in excellent condition, no problems, as shown, until the inside back cover area where the seam is shored up with Lineco clear doc tape, mostly for aesthetics. Volume 2: Micro-bumps on the cover, The top and bottom of the spine are hardened up with glue. The lettering on both spines is clear, but not bright. I would call the cover and spine VG Minus. The IFC area is shored up on the seam just like the other volume, but the next page has a lighter repair - just a Lineco clear strip on the seam. The entire rest of the book / pages are beautiful as shown until the inside back cover area that has a Lineco clear strip on the seam. The outside of the pages are a s shown, a little dark, as is normal for a 110 year old book, but not damaged at all. See photo. Enjoy! I also found the following article online by the author: [p. ] 324 American Antiquarian Society. April, SOME LETTERS, ETC., OF JOHN HANCOCK AND THOMAS CUSHING. ' BY ALLEN C. THOMAS Too lengthy to reproduce here, but DO have a look. Here's another web find: (from qhpress) "(144) Cf. Allen C. Thomas and Richard H. Thomas, A History of Friends in America 1895, p 292 (4th and later editions, p. 184) where without giving names, it is said that a few Negroes have become minister among Friends, but only among the Orthodox. The Irish Friend i, 1837-8, p. 64, tells of a slave, Pompey, owned by a Friend of Deep River Monthly Meeting, N.C. who was commanded in a dream to go among people called Quakers and tell them in Christ's name to be still. He had recently been brought from Guinea and did not speak English well, nor had he heard of Christ, but his master released him for this service and accompanied by a Friend he visited Quaker families in Deep River and New Garden Meeting and elsewhere. The same story is told in the Friends Weekly Intelligencer vii, 1850-1., p. 410. Evidently it was believed to be a Divine warning to prepare Friends for the coming war of the American Revolution." If people buy my books I can re-up my ANCESTRY and NEWSPAPERS (expensive) subscription and offer more background. Its always a deep dive into these colorful characters.
