The work is considered an important account of the events of the Civil War period as they affected individual localities and parishes as well as the clergy themselves. Tatham explores the circumstances in which Walker wrote the book, the nature of the sources used to compile it and the manner in which he used them as well as the contemporary criticism that greeted its publication. With a calendar of Walker's collection of manuscripts in the Bodleian Library, two letters from Walker concerning the book and a list of the principal printed authorities cited by Walker. Written by G. B. Tatham, a Fellow of the Trinity College, Cambridge. CONDITION In the original full cloth binding. Externally, very smart with minor rubbing and light fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd small spot. Light age toning to the endpapers with a contemporary ink inscription to the title page.
