Description: This is an original vintage baseball photo of Franklin Oakley from his brief stint with the Newark Indians, taken in 1909, featuring Oakley warming up at Wiedenmayer's Park in Newark, NJ. Interestingly, the NY Highlanders played a make -up game on July 17, 1904, at the ballpark, on a Sunday. He was then secured by the Altoona Mountaineers during the 1909 season, and was leant out to Newark during 2 stints in the Spring or 1909, then again in June of 1909, per several newspaper articles. Another article mentions a NY Highlanders tryout! He was married in July of 1909, and presumed to have left the game, as no additional information (baseball related) was found. The photo measures 4 5/8" x 6 5/8" and is absolutely guaranteed to achieve a PSA/DNA Type 1 designation. The photo has outstanding clarity and depth, really nice for the period. The photo is a great piece of memorabilia for any collector or fan of vintage sports, especially minor league history, Newark, NJ, or East Coast turn-of-the-century baseball. The photo is in excellent shape and is a true piece of history from the early 1900s. Please carefully review scans/photos and if needed, inquire prior to bidding/purchasing. IMPORTANT- This listing is for the photograph, ONLY! Feel free to "lift" the newspaper articles from the listing photos, as they ARE NOT INCLUDED!! Will combine shipping when feasible.
