Description: William Howard Taft started and ended his career as a judge, beginning locally in Ohio and ending it as the only ex-President to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court, let alone as its Chief Justice. In between he had other roles, chiefly he was Governor of the Philippines and Theodore Roosevelt's Secretary of War- becoming his chosen successor. Taft ran in 1908 against democrat William Jennings Bryan who had lost twice to McKinley and then crashed a third time to Taft. But when Taft ran for re-election as president in 1912, his former boss threw a wrench in the gears by bolting the GOP to run as the Progressive Party "Bull Moose" nominee. So, Taft came in third in that race with democrat Woodrow Wilson winning and TR placing second. How embarrassing for an incumbent president, huh? Here's a .75" cello pin from 1908 using the letters of Taft's last name creatively to promote him, along the lines of TR's initial pins. This also comes in a red background as well and as a quite similar, gold-colored metal lapel pin. Made by Bastian Brothers of Rochester, New York, the back paper is still intact. We hope this will make a nice addition to someone's political collection or a nice holiday gift for a beginning collector. It is in nice condition but please look at our images to judge condition for yourself so you can be happy with your purchase. There may be light surface wear and scratches as found on most all older pins. Shipping on it will be $5.85 sent well-protected with tracking. We are members of APIC and sell only authentic presidential (and other collectible) material so buy with confidence. And we'll be happy to combine S & H costs on multiple purchases even though eBay says we don't. We just give you a refund for any overpayment. 9476
