1904 Alton Parker Henry Davis (Younger-looking) Jugate Presidential Campaign Pin

Description: In 1904, democrat Alton B. Parker had the unenviable task of running for president against one of the most popular people to hold that office, Theodore Roosevelt. Judge Parker was from New York state while the running mate the Democratic National Convention chose for him was Henry Davis from West Virginia, not a big vote-getting electoral state. They picked him since Davis was wealthy and party power brokers thought he might flood democrat coffers with a lot of dough. But he didn't and, being one of the oldest men ever nominated for high office at age 81, he didn't do much campaigning at all in their lost cause against TR. Collectors call this time period the "Golden Age" of political buttons, and you can see why. Here's a pretty 1.25" cello button from that election promoting the ticket in a jugate picturing both men. This example shows Davis as a much younger-looking man which makes it a bit more unusual pin, since-for that time period-he was ancient. Most buttons show him much older and we're listing another Parker-Davis pin with a more up-to-date view of him. This was made by Baltimore Badge Company, but its back paper is only partially intact. It is in nice condition but please look at our images to judge condition for yourself so you can be happy with your purchase. There may be light surface wear and scratches as found on most all older pins and those white flecks in the first picture was simply some dust on our scanner. You don't see them in the camera shots.
