Prize bookplate of Portsmouth Education Committee, awarding this special prize to Sidney Seward of Drayton Road Boys' School, dated 1908. Robert Michael Ballantyne (1825-1894) was a prolific Scottish author and accomplished artist, best remembered for his adventure tales for children. He greatly influenced Robert Louis Stevenson, who used various themes he found in Ballantyne's work in his famous book Treasure Island. This is his most successful novel, a classic work of children's literature, in which three boys survive a shipwreck and are marooned on a South Pacific island. CONDITION In a full calf prize binding. Externally smart, with a little rubbing to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright with the odd spot.
